Lisa Blackmon to lead technology initiatives at Brown Physicians, Inc.
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (February 4, 2019) — Brown Physicians, Inc. (BPI), the physician-led practice group that was created to coordinate and enhance the quality of care for patients in Rhode Island, has named Lisa Blackmon as its Chief Information Officer. Blackmon will play a key role in directing Information Technology initiatives and spearheading the development of technology platforms that will make it easier for patients in Rhode Island to meet with specialty physicians.
“Lisa’s in-depth knowledge of Information Technology and her experience leading the technology initiatives at University Surgical Associates have prepared her well for the responsibilities and duties assigned to the Chief Information Officer,” said Dr. Angela Caliendo, BPI’s Executive Director and Executive Vice Chair of Medicine at The Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University. “We look forward to working closely with her to expand BPI’s impact on the health care system in Rhode Island.”
Blackmon will be responsible for overseeing the implementation of a shared electronic medical record and a combined referral platform that will leverage the resources of BPI’s six foundations, which include Brown Dermatology, Brown Emergency Medicine, Brown Medicine, Brown Neurology, Brown Urology, and University Surgical Associates. She will also work collaboratively with the IT departments of each foundation to continue the integration of BPI’s internal IT infrastructure and, ultimately, improve the referral process for patients who have various medical needs.
With a background in information technology that spans more than 25 years, Blackmon successfully led many IT initiatives at Textron and, most recently, at University Surgical Associates (USA), where she serves as the Director of Information Technology. In this role, she oversees the infrastructure, compliance, security, and risk management for the organization. She is expected to remain in her position at USA while serving in her new role.
“I look forward to working with the executive leadership of BPI and supporting BPI’s mission to improve patient care, expand medical research, and teach the next generation of medical professionals,” Blackmon said. “By pooling our resources from the six foundations, I am confident that we can provide the solutions that will improve the overall patient experience.”
Blackmon earned an MBA and bachelor’s degree in computer information systems from Bryant University.
