About Brown Physicians, Inc
Brown Physicians, Incorporated (BPI) is a community-based not-for-profit multi-specialty practice group founded and led by faculty affiliated with The Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University. Our mission is to provide outstanding patient care, exceptional medical education, and groundbreaking advances in research to promote better health for the people of Rhode Island and its surrounding communities.
BPI is composed of six foundations, which include Brown Dermatology, Brown Emergency Medicine, Brown Medicine, Brown Neurology, Brown Urology, and University Surgical Associates.
Ultrasound Guided Anesthetic Blocks
Brown Emergency Medicine’s Dr. Caitlin Azzo and Dr. Leland Perice explore groundbreaking research on using ultrasound technology to reduce or eliminate pain without relying on opioids. This innovative approach has the potential to transform emergency care and pain management, offering a safer and more effective alternative for patients.
Brown Dermatology
Founded in 1997 by Dr. Charles McDonald, the Department of Dermatology and its clinical practices are located across the State of Rhode Island. Brown Dermatology physicians provide comprehensive medical care to meet the dermatology, cosmetic, and pediatric needs of patients.
Brown Emergency Medicine
Brown Emergency Medicine is the academic emergency medicine physician practice plan of the Department of Emergency Medicine at the Alpert Medical School of Brown University, and Lifespan’s Rhode Island Hospital, The Miriam Hospital, and Newport Hospital.
Brown Medicine
Brown Medicine (formerly known as University Medicine) is a nonprofit, primary care, specialty outpatient and subspecialty medical group practice with over 200 physicians and multiple patient care locations across the state and is one of the largest, academic, multi-specialty groups in East Providence, R.I.
Brown Neurology
Brown Neurology (formerly The Neurology Foundation, Inc.) was established in 1989 as a tax-exempt, non-profit organization to provide support to the missions of the Warren Alpert Medical School and Rhode Island Hospital in patient care, medical education and neuroscience research.

Brown Urology strives to provide the finest patient care in the area of Urology, as defined by the optimal outcome for all its patients. With a team of physicians that are dedicated to addressing patients’ urinary disorders, teaching the next generation, and advancing Urological research.
Brown Surgical Associates
Brown Surgical Associates is Rhode Island’s largest multidisciplinary surgical group. With over 50 surgeons, we provide state of the art care to Southern New England and have influenced care of national and international referrals.
